Making a good tool better

Modifying a circular saw

Hand tool people modify stuff

It's common to modify tools if you are a hand-tool-person (if there is such a thing). Filing a saw handle to fit you hand better or making small jigs to make you life easier in the workshop.

I had to rip 20+ boards into a smaller width than my circular saw could manage with it's original fence.

not narrow enough

As you can see it cannot cut this narrow, and I didn't want to cut more than 100 meters with my rip saw...

So, by taking the fence,

original fence

and drilling two holes in it,

original fence, two holes

I could attach a wooden distance to it, making it cut narrower.

original fence, done

I was able to make my boards and be on my way.

Modifying tools isn't just for the hand tool person it looks like... :)
