Perfect imperfection?
- Dad, I need a new bed and a desk in my room in Småland...
This is the result.
As you can see I have tried to follow the natural curve of the grain and with that created a very imperfect desk. But is perfection really needed?
A better shot from above.
Flattening the boards after the glue up was done with my new short jointer which I use as my fore plane
I sealed the boards with shellac (you need to seal open pore lumber, like oak) and filled the knots with hide glue and kimrök [1]. Then I finished off with some varnish made with linseed oil as it's base.
The lumber is local, just some 200km from where I live. It's my good friend that had taken down a couple of oak trees and asked if I wanted any. And Yes, I did! ;)
The Bed
Is very high (as requested) to accommodate a small chest of drawers with possibly a door as well. And a space for our dogs to retreat to...
Nothing special with it, it's wall-to-wall and sits on small legs. The sides are made of oak and the boards in between are made of pine.
